I had always wondered what was beneath my stairs and behind the coat closet. But ALWAYS had the fear of “Once you open a can of worms, you better be prepared for the challenge (and $) ahead”.
It only took me 2 years, a few cocktails, my bestie (brad) and a hammer to get the courage to hack at my coat closet and make a complete disaster… only to find this hidden gem!
Being in the design industry, studying lots of floor plans and knowing construction… I just KNEW that there was usable space! Now, getting the hubby on board… is a different story!
Like I said… a few cocktails, my bestie Brad and a hammer… the deed was done! There was no going back! And lets just say… our little hole eventually turned into a BIG Hole!
There’s NO going back!
My husband was greeted with a trail of drywall dusted foot prints all over our ebony wood floors and two laughing buffoons.
To my surprise, my husband wasn’t the least bit upset! Yes, he was shocked and like wth… but he came around and he was eventually excited!!! In his financial head… he thought it would be great for resale!
If you don’t know much about me, I have 2 little boys… William and Wyatt! Given the space is small, I figured this would be the perfect little area for the boys to play!
I wanted this space to be fun, functional and creative!
This is how my room began
to take shape!
I admit I follow many ridiculous celebrities on Instagram…. but then I also follow some pretty inspirational and fun celebrities. One day I was browsing Lisa Osbourne’s Instagram (Ozzy Osbourne daughter-n-law) and I fell in love with the area rug she used for her girls playroom. I figured with her status…. this rug must be a fortune! So I searched and searched… and I found “THE RUG“. To my surprise it was sooooo ridiculously reasonable! $190 whopping bucks! BINGO! Since my space was small, I was able to install the rug wall to wall!
A couple accent colors later, lots of TOYSsss and this room turned out just as I wanted! AND…. the boys LOVE IT!
